A lot has been written about the Cox, CXO300 diesel outboard but until now it has all been with images of the development engine.
Now that has all changed with the CXO300 having its first official release at the recent Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. The most powerful diesel outboard to date, delivering 300 hp at the propeller, it features an entirely new four-stroke V-8 powerhead.
British-based Cox Powertrain says the engine weighs in at 375 kg. A pair of the engines were mounted on a new Intrepid Powerboat 345 Nomad but were not available to run at the show. Cox has started a series of on-water demonstrations that will continue through to spring 2019 on both the east and west coasts of the U.S. New Zealand will see its first production engines mid-2019.
